Wi-Fi and Google Nearby

Post by InsaneAudioSupport6 » Thu May 10, 2018 9:16 am

Hey folks! As you may already know, Google regularly updates its software through the Play Store. Google also updates the Google Play Services without telling you, and unfortunately a recent update can decrease the Wi-Fi performance of your head unit. Specifically there's an issue we're seeing with Google Nearby, a feature that uses your location to figure out places you might want to visit. We strongly recommend turning off Google Nearby as follows.

Go to Settings > Google, and scroll down to the Nearby item.

Tap on the gear button, and turn off all options.

So, if you find you're getting below 1 Mbps, give that a shot. If you have any further questions, contact us at support@insaneaudio.com.

Well, Google has struck again. A recent update, related to Google Nearby can slow down your internet performance. Provided Below are the steps to turn off Google Devices. This feature, just like Google Nearby uses your location and hogs your Wi-Fi. Instead of finding places to visit through a search like Google Nearby, this update uses your location to look for nearby devices. While this setting is on your Wi-Fi speeds will suffer dramatically. We strongly recommend turning this setting off. Here’s how:

Go to System Settings > Google > and scroll down to Devices.

Click on the Blue tab bottom to turn this feature off

Once you’ve turned this setting off this is what you should see. Image

Now you can back out or press the home button. You’re all set!

Turning off Google Nearby and Devices will make sure you’re getting fast and reliable Wi-Fi speeds. If you have any other questions or concerns, please reach out to our support team at support@insaneaudio.com

Hey IA users. Google has added a few more settings that can run in the background and really drag down your internet speeds plus effect Bluetooth quality.

Besides Google Nearby and Google Devices there are now two other Google background applications that we want to make sure to turn off.

Here’s some helpful steps, with pictures too.

Follow this path to get into your Google settings: Go to System Settings > Google > and scroll to Ads.

We’re going to want to opt out of Ads Personalization:

Then press Okay confirming that you’re opting out of ads personalization

It should like look like this once you’ve finished opting out.

Next, we need to turn off the find my device setting in the security section.

Scroll down until you see Security,

Select and proceed to Find My Device

Then you’re going to want to turn this feature off

Having all these features turned off plus the ones mentioned above will help ensure you’re getting fast internet speeds and a reliable Bluetooth connection.

Hey Insane Audio users! We’ve always recommended turning off some Google Background Services for great Wi-Fi and Bluetooth performance. To turn off these features in the past, you would have to open your settings and take plenty of additional steps from there. Now, we’ve made it much easier to make sure you have these background services off and are getting great Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Here’s How.

IA Utility is Insane Audio's multi-purpose tool. We’ve recently added a short cut allowing you easy access to turn off your Google Back Ground Services discussed above. Getting the latest version of IA Utility is simple. Head over to the Google Play Store and type in IA Utility. You’ll have either the option to install or update. Press update to get the latest version of IA Utility.

Note: If you see install you’re more than likely on an older version of Insane Audio software and we recommend updating. You can find the update for your particular Insane Audio head unit here. https://insaneaudio.com/forum/viewforum ... 53305479bf

Once you’ve updated your IA Utility to the latest version open the app. When the app is open press the 3 lines in the upper left. Then tap Configure. Scroll down to privacy and follow the directions for each option.
