JK2001 Software Update v2.2

Post by InsaneAudioSupport6 » Thu Aug 16, 2018 4:55 pm

Version 2.2 of our core software is available now for your JK2001! Please note that this software version is only for Insane Audio’s JK2001, and you should not attempt to apply it to any other product.

To see if you need this update, go to the Settings app, and scroll down to "About machine". Your build number will start with "px5-userdebug 6.0.1" and ends with a date code. This build will update you to

px5-userdebug 6.0.1 MXC89L user.ia.jk2001.20181022

Instructions

To apply this software, you’ll need a microSD card formatted in FAT32. There is a compressed file available here

Software Update (796 MB)

Right-click on the link above and "save as" to somewhere locally on your computer. Once you’ve downloaded the file, unzip it, and then you'll obtain a file called "update.img". Copy it over to that microSD card. Remember, your microSD card needs to be formatted as FAT32!

Then you’ll want to go out to your vehicle. We recommend running your engine to preserve your battery, in case you're sitting in your vehicle for an extended amount of time. Make sure Insane NavEngine has been shut down gracefully (i.e. exit the app by pressing the power icon from the main menu).

Remove your Insane NavEngine GPS card from the GPS slot, and insert your microSD card with the software update file. A dialog box should automatically pop up asking you to update your software. Alternatively, you can also go to Settings > About Machine, and then tap on "System Updates".

Note: If your software build number is before 20180823, or if your head unit never connects to Wi-Fi , then we strongly recommend doing a full wipe and starting clean by checking the "wipe data and format flash" option, since it's fairly easy to reinstall your apps from the Play Store. If you uncheck the box, you can retain your settings and data, but certain apps you previously installed might not cooperate with the update process. If you experience any "optimizing" issues, please contact us to reset the head unit.

When the system is all done with the update, remove your update microSD card, and re-insert your Insane NavEngine GPS card.
Then, you’ll want to verify that you’ve updated the software correctly. Go to "About machine" under Settings, and verify that your build number is

px5-userdebug 6.0.1 MXC89L user.ia.jk2001.20181022

If you chose to "wipe data and format flash", then you'll need to re-install Insane NavEngine. First, go to Settings > Security, and check the "Unknown sources" option. Then go to the App drawer, and open IA Utility. There will be a button to install Insane NavEngine.

A clean install will also clear the Torque settings, and you'll need to re-pair your OBDII adapter. Visit this page for instructions.

Lastly, be sure to check out this forum post to disable certain Google tracking features. As always, you can hit us up at support@insaneaudio.com if you encounter any problems.

So I have tried this a couple of times and the system reboots the Android screen then says it can not find the files. I have tried this a couple of time and even had to do a power disconnect to reboot the entire system. The update will not install from the instructions I have followed from this post. What should I try next?

Thank you,
Bill

Just a word of thanks for the tech support suggestion and help. It turns out have been an issue with my memory card I was using. Found an older standard Fat32 micro SD card and it work perfectly as stated in the update instructions.

Now to get the Cameras hooked up.

Bill :D

Hey gmattp77,

You're Insane Audio device will not read exFAT format. Please format your card to MS-DOS (FAT), for any software updates.

HEY SUPPORT DUDES:

You know me. If anything can go wrong, it happens to me. Well, while doing my annual cleaning, I discovered my Win-7 computer was going to fail shortly. Some electrolytic caps on the main board were swelled up. Yeah, I coudda replaced them. But it was 8 years old. So I had to upgrade to a Win-10 machine. The transition has not been easy.

I tried downloading the file a few times. It failed. Like 3 times. So I did a reboot, and tried again. This time it seemed to work. But now I am worried. I extracted a file called update, with a size of 1,251,785 KB dated 08/31/2018. Interesting point, it should be kB. In scientific notation K is Kelvin, k is kilo. Anyway.....

Does it look like a have a valid file there? If you say yes, then I might get up enough courage to actually try going on with it. It has never worked right yet, always something goes wrong. I'm not kidding. Last time I had to pull the NEG battery cable and wait a while. :(

Thanks much.

Hey Support Dudes, you know me...... long days and nights running the power grid, dog shows, and just recently a 4-day Overland Expedition in NM. So I'm just getting to it today..... hours before my son's wedding. I'll take the opportunity to run the GPS chip through NaviExtras too. Picked up a small Expedition trailer with an RTT.

So, crossing fingers, toes, and eyes too, cause if anything can go wrong, it happens to me..... I'll report back soon.

SUCCESS! Everything went smooth. Now I am scared, what else can go wrong today? It is my son's wedding day - and a bunch of his former Cavalry Troopers are here..... can't wait for the combat tales later tonight......

We just got back from a 4-day expedition in the Gila wilderness. The JK2001 was rocking the music, running the Go-Pro, and doing several other chores. Sadly, it was Guidance by Garmin, because I could upload tracks to the Garmin and follow them. This is something you need to fix in the JK2001 guys.....
